Some Preliminary Thoughts

Some people build rockets, others go fishing; I just analyze things. Here you'll find "mentions" of whatever I happen to be pondering and thinking through at the moment. I hope some of this is relevant to you as well.

Just a question

What do you think is the greatest motivation for life? What keeps people alive in this physical world?

Don't feel obligated to share your answer here, but I wouldn't mind if you do...

Instinct!
Is that too boring? All creatures have an innate desire to sustain and keep themselves out of harm. You could argue that it's love, religion, family, or posessions, but really, even people without any of the above try to preserve their existence in this world. I really can't explain what it is that makes people want to live...can you?

Also, in the same strain of thought (although tihs may be a bit morbid), what motivates people to end their lives? If instinct keeps us alive, what is it exactly that's strong enough to overpower instinct?

I appreciate your thought - I'm not sure that it answers my question, but I guess you were aware of that.

Your question was exactly the thought that caused me to ponder the motivation for life...
